They are made without traditional robotic mechanical components and are much better at bending and squeezing into small spaces.
Without hard edges, they are also unlikely to hurt animals, people and objects they interact.
Because of this, engineers suggest that soft robots can be used to climb into collapsed buildings in search. and-
Rescue missions have even been used as a safer alternative to current robotic surgical tools.
However, the soft robot technology is still in its early stages and most designs must be kept in touch with the gas source.
These air pumps allow the robot to achieve pneumatic movement by transferring air to different parts of its anatomical structure.
This new design is described in the recently established journal of soft robots, placing all devices directly on the back of the robot.
Its creators put it in an extremely hot and cold environment, indicating their robots-
