geothermal project heats up in timmins.

At some point in early January 2004, the use of the mine water cycle for heating and cooling buildings may enter the pilot project phase.
The Shania Twain center, one of the city\'s major tourist attractions, is considered a candidate site to investigate the geothermal potential of the former Hollinger gold mine.
Mark Jansen said that although the project manager has an optimistic vision of heating public buildings with a former shaft pumping water, the economy of the program has now become smaller and the city\'s director of community development.

Last summer, the feasibility work of extending the technology to the McIntyre arena, as well as to the Timmins and regional hospitals, showed that a lot of energy was saved in heating and cooling facilities.
But the cost of steam modification-
Arena-based heating system is too expensive to accommodate geothermal energy, North
It is believed that the end hospital is too far away from the heat source to run the infrastructure.
\"The technology is very capital intensive and we can\'t find an economic project for hospitals,\" Jensen said . \".
So their efforts
Focus on the new Shania Twain center, which is actually located at the top of the former mining area.
Project planner said
The floor heating system is an ideal choice for converting and utilizing geothermal energy.
Using a simple heat exchange system, it is planned to mine the flooded abandoned Hollinger as a huge reservoir.
It will be set in a closedloop system.
A well will be drilled and the water will be pumped from about 200 to 250 deep to an electric heat pump in which the temperature will be raised for heating.
Then the water will be renewed
Cycle back to the axis.
The temperature of Mineshaft is estimated to be between 12 and 13 degrees Celsius.
In the summer, water is extracted from shallow places in order to cool down.

Feasibility report on mid-term expiration
In January, the estimated capital cost of infrastructure entering the Shania Twain center was set at $200,000 to $250,000.
Skagestad said his upcoming report will review the concept of the prototype project and examine all aspects of capital costs and alternative energy from natural gas to geothermal.
It is not estimated how much water is stored in the mine, nor is it directly calculated for its maximum energy potential.
Another similar business has proved successful in N. Chunqiu. S.
Water from abandoned coal mines is used to heat and cool buildings in industrial parks.
In Nova Scotia, by converting natural gas into geothermal heating, they claim to save more than 30 cents on gas bills.
\"We know we\'re going to save most of the gas we\'re draining, but it\'s not free to drive these heat pumps,\" Skagestad said . \".
\"We replace natural gas with some geothermal energy, but we need some electricity.
\"What drives the economies of such projects is the\" spark spread \"of commodity prices between the unit energy costs between electricity and gas,\" he said \".
More detailed research will have to be done later to make some real estimates of the total potential of applying this technology to multiple buildings around the town.
So far, government support for the project has totaled about $60,000.
If the study shows promising results in favorable economic conditions, then it is possible to go to Chunqiu to check their system in detail and take advantage of their experience, he said.
Jensen suspects that if the results of the report are favourable, the Council will accept the report and be prepared to move into the pilot project phase to measure how much money will be saved in the city.
He also hopes that the private sector of Timmins will eventually invest some investment.
\"If we can get this particular site under a pilot project and show that it has hope to work, it will encourage some private investment in the community,\" Jensen said . \". www. fvbenergy. com www. city. timmins. on.
